In addition to attaining certification for the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 (at least 30% of total production must be certified), companies must meet strict specifications regarding wastewater treatment and waste air emissions; use environmentally compatible technologies, chemicals and dyes; optimize energy and material use; demonstrate workplace hygiene and safety; and comply with social criteria, including a prohibition on child labor and forced labor, providing wages commensurate with performance and regulated work hours. Certifications are renewed annually.
